Workplace Safety with Tricorp Safety

Workplace safety is essential for every professional. The number of safety risks and the potential severity of consequences vary greatly by sector. Nevertheless, "safety first" is a motto that applies everywhere. In several sectors, such as construction, the chemical industry, and logistics, safety risks can be reduced by wearing the right work clothing. Tricorp has developed a special label for this purpose: Tricorp Safety. This line consists of high-visibility clothing and multi-norm clothing. In this article, you will learn more about common safety risks and how you can prevent accidents by wearing certified safety clothing.

WORKPLACE ACCIDENTS: THE FACTS

The importance of continuously emphasizing workplace safety is evident from the statistics on workplace accidents. On average, as many as 200,000 employees experience a workplace accident each year. These accidents vary significantly in severity, ranging from minor injuries to fatalities (about sixty per year). A workplace accident is defined under the Dutch Working Conditions Act as “an incident at work or during working hours that immediately leads to health damage.” Work locations include not only company offices but also construction sites or public roads (if road workers are working there).

PREVENTING WORKPLACE ACCIDENTS

To reduce these numbers, employers must continue to focus on preventing workplace accidents and unsafe situations. Limiting environmental risks, providing good information about health and safety hazards, and wearing high-quality work clothing are examples of precautionary measures that can be taken. Tricorp sets the highest standards for its work clothing, not only in terms of quality and appearance but also regarding workplace safety.

THESE 5 DANGERS CAN BE AVERTED WITH SAFETY CLOTHING

Tricorp Safety is designed for professionals working in hazardous environments or with dangerous materials. Tricorp lists five common dangers that can be prevented by wearing clothing from our Safety collection:

1.     COLLISIONS

Collisions can have various causes, one of the most common being poor visibility. This can be due to the environment or because the worker is not wearing high-visibility clothing. Workplace collisions often occur on company premises, in warehouses, at loading and unloading sites, and along public roads. To ensure proper visibility, Tricorp offers a wide range of high-visibility clothing that meets the EN ISO 20471 standard. Tricorp’s multi-norm collection is also available in a high-visibility version.

2.     CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES

Workplace safety is at greater risk when working with chemical substances or in environments with an increased risk of fire and explosion. If you work with chemical substances, you need clothing that complies with the EN 13034 standard. This standard specifically covers four liquid chemicals: sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, o-xylene, and butanol. Tricorp’s Overall Multinorm can provide the necessary protection. This overall is also flame-retardant, anti-static, and offers protection against the thermal hazards of an electric arc and during welding tasks. Prefer work pants instead of an overall? That’s possible! By combining the Multinorm Work Trousers with the Multinorm Softshell or Multinorm Parka, you are also protected against the aforementioned chemicals.

4.     EXPLOSIONS

The EN 11612 standard is linked to the EN 1149-5 standard, which specifies the requirements for electrically conductive work clothing. Anti-static clothing prevents sparks, thereby also preventing explosions. Various flammable substances can cause explosions, as can solvent vapors often used in factories. Tricorp’s entire multi-norm collection is anti-static.

5.     CONTACT WITH ELECTRICITY

In various professions, you may come into contact with electricity, such as when working near high-voltage lines or electrical installations. An electric arc can occur due to a short circuit in an electrical installation. To protect yourself against the thermal effects of contact with an electric arc, wear clothing that meets the IEC 6148-2 standard.
